An 88-year-old woman remains hospitalized following a violent robbery attempt that went wrong, according to police.
The unfortunate event occurred on Monday, leaving the elderly woman with severe injuries and a fractured face, as well as damage to her teeth.
Sara Allen, a resident of the building near to the crime scene, discovered the elderly woman lying face down and covered in blood. Allen described the scene as disturbing.
"You could see the blood all over her face and it was coming down from her nose and mouth," said Allen.
The attack involved two suspects who were attempting to steal the woman’s purse.
According to police reports, the robbery attempt led to a struggle, causing the victim to fall and sustain significant injuries.
Some of the blood from the incident remains on the sidewalk, a reminder of the violence that occurred.
Allen expressed her fear and concern for the safety of her family and the community, saying, "It's scary to know that this kind of thing is happening right in front of my building. I have two young daughters who go in and out of the neighborhood, so it's a little bit scary to see it."
The incident has local residents on alert.
"We're not safe anymore; we have to be careful and now," said a woman who lives in the neighborhood.
