The Dutchess County Legislature postponed a resolution authorizing an agreement between county and city leaders to establish a homeless shelter in Poughkeepsie.
The Poughkeepsie Common Council voted in favor of the agreement at a special meeting Thursday night.
The Chair of the Dutchess County Legislature says that agreement was changed just hours before the vote.
“We received a new agreement yesterday and never had a seat at the table during negotiations. If the Democratic caucus held the majority in 2022, the Legislature would never have approved the purchase of 26 Oakley. The Democratic Caucus has always opposed this plan,” said Yvette Valdés Smith in a press release.
Officials say the vote has been postponed until September’s legislative committee meeting.
Democrat Majority Leader Barrington Atkins says the postponement will provide “the time needed to work with the County Executive’s Office to ensure that any path forward is rooted in collaboration and transparency.”
