        Drought watch raises concerns over increased fire risk

        New York City is currently under a moderate drought watch, and officials are warning residents to be cautious.
        The FDNY says it activated special brushfire units as a precaution during this dry season.
        On Monday, a brushfire in Van Cortlandt Park took over five hours to control, emphasizing the danger these fires can pose.
        FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker urges New Yorkers to avoid discarding lit items like cigarettes onto dry leaves or grass and to be mindful when parking on dry surfaces.
        So far, the FDNY says it has responded to over 170 brush fires this season, and with dry and windy weather ahead, the risk remains high.
