Dozens of family and friends attended the wake for 18-year-old Riley Goot, of Babylon, Wednesday evening.
As previously reported, the recent West Babylon High School graduate died in a car crash early Saturday morning.
Goot’s grandfather, George Wenk, tells News 12 the family is beyond grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
“What we've received we could never repay,” he said. "Food is coming. Support is coming. We know they're out there. We know they are supporting us, they love us. We want them to know how much we appreciate it and how helpful it is."
As previously reported, Goot was in a car with four others when another car failed to stop at a light and hit them on Great East Neck Road And Railroad Avenue in West Babylon. The driver of the vehicle that hit them, 33-year-old Michael Desmond, of Lindenhurst, also died as a result of the crash.
As Goot’s loved ones prepare to lay him to rest Friday, they say his four friends involved in the crash are at the top of their minds, including the driver of the car Goot was in, 17-year-old Bella Trezza.
“Riley's friends are struggling in the hospital. And we know that their families are struggling also. We want them to know that we really are praying for them," said Wenk.
Wenk says the family would like to raise money for a scholarship fund in Goot’s name.
