A dog left tied to the snowy median along the New Jersey interstate has been given the chance for a new life.
Roseland police found “Golden,” the 7-month-old cockapoo, chained to the guardrail along the median on Interstate 280 last Monday.
They said the dog was shivering in the snow, had a string tied around his nose, hadn’t been groomed in months and walked with a limp.
“I can’t imagine why somebody would want to do this to an animal,” said Golden’s foster parent, Joanne Edison.
Golden needed surgery for a broken leg, covered by the donations received at Big Dog Rescue Project. The team has now paired Golden with a foster family in Ocean County.
“He’s a beautiful dog,” said Edison. “He’s sweet, and they supply everything. They brought the crate, the food and my dogs got along with him. It was a perfect fit.”
“The more people that are able to foster, more of these dogs, these awful stories, can turn into a positive one,” said BDRP volunteer Joey Morano.
BDRP takes in dogs from all over - particularly Texas - but they have found more forever homes in New Jersey. To reach that step, it often takes a foster home first, and the team is looking for more volunteers.
“It’s not as much work as people like to make it out to be,” said Morano. “It is work, but nothing worth having is simple and easy.”
“They find the perfect family for the dogs,” Edison said. “It’s a good match, and it makes you feel good.”
The Edison family has been fostering for a year and a half, and they’re preparing Golden for a life of luxury. You can donate to Golden’s care HERE.
