Flying out of Newark this week? Your flight could be delayed.
This week, known as Jersey Week, is when a lot of families take off from school and work to go on vacation. Many go to Disney.
Of course, Election Day is Tuesday, and schools are closed on Thursday and Friday for NJEA Convention.
But with the ongoing government shutdown, Air Traffic Controllers and TSA agents are working without pay.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says many are not going to work because they need to work other jobs to make money during this time.
Yesterday at Newark Airport there was ground delay because of staffing shortages in the control tower according to the FAA.
The average delay they say was two hours, but some flights were more than three hours late.
NYC Emergency Management said flights headed to Newark may be held on the ground and departures from Newark may be delayed because gates stay occupied when arrivals are backed up.
NYC Emergency Management also says those delays often spread to JFK and LaGuardia.
