One man died in a car crash in Deer Park and a Suffolk County police officer was injured while responding to the scene early this morning.
Suffolk County Police said Deer Park resident Anthony Guglielmo, 56, was driving a 2013 Mini Cooper northbound on Deer Park Avenue when it collided with a 2011 Jeep Liberty traveling westbound through the intersection at Grand Boulevard at 3:40 a.m.
Guglielmo died at Good Samaritan Hospital. The driver of the Jeep, Hauppauge resident Stefanie Russo, 37, was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Minutes after the crash, a Suffolk County police officer in a marked vehicle responding to the scene collided with a 1997 Ford van at the intersection of Deer Park and Lake avenues at 3:51 a.m., according to officials.
Officials said the police car had activated its lights and sirens and was traveling southbound toward the crash while the van was traveling eastbound.
Both drivers were the only ones in their respective cars. The two men were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The crash shut down Deer Park Avenue between Grand Boulevard and Lake Avenue for four hours before eventually reopening at 7:45 a.m.
Anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact First Squad detectives at (631) 854-8152.
