Dark web cocaine shipment leads investigators to drug cache, prosecutors say
A Brick Township father and son have been charged with narcotics distribution and weapons offenses following an investigation that authorities say uncovered a large cache of drugs, guns and cash.
Ocean County prosecutors said Ryan Weil, 35, and his father, Kenneth Weil, 74, were arrested after investigators intercepted a package containing about 15 grams of cocaine that was allegedly purchased on the dark web using cryptocurrency and addressed to Ryan Weil's residence. Detectives obtained a search warrant and conducted an undercover delivery of the package before executing the warrant at the home on June 16.
During the search, investigators seized the package, along with about 20 pounds of marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, Xanax, MDMA, oxycodone, ketamine, LSD, drug distribution paraphernalia, three shotguns, one rifle, two handguns and approximately $34,000 in cash, according to prosecutors.
Ryan Weil faces numerous charges, including possession of cocaine, heroin, marijuana and other controlled substances with intent to distribute, weapons offenses, conspiracy and financial facilitation. Prosecutors said a judge ordered him held in the Ocean County Jail pending trial on June 25.
Kenneth Weil was charged with multiple drug distribution, weapons and financial facilitation offenses. He was released from the Ocean County Jail under New Jersey's bail reform law, prosecutors said.
