A 22-year-old living in Wyandanch was indicted Tuesday in connection to the rape and sexual abuse of a 6-year-old.

The Suffolk County District Attorney says Nixon Nehemias Marquezmestanza faces charges of rape, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors say he had direct childcare access to the victim and used that to sexually abuse the child on several occasions last year.

Officials say after the last incident in August 2025, the child told family members about the alleged abuse, who then called police.

“This brave young victim told someone, and her family acted on it immediately. That is how these cases come to light,” said District Attorney Ray Tierney. “I want every family in Suffolk County to know that they can come forward, and our prosecutors and Special Victims Section will be there. Protecting children is a core responsibility of this office, and we will see this case through.”

Marquezmestanza was arrested on Aug. 31, 2026 after an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department Special Victims Section.

He is being held on $500,000 cash, $1.5 million bond or $5 million partially secured bond during the pendency of the case.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer to take custody of Marquezmestanza following prosecution.

He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted on the top count.
