The Half Hollow Hills School District is pushing back against a new piece of the Melville overlay district.

The district wants the town of Huntington to pause consideration of the cornerstone to review potential impacts to the district. A developer wants to build 168 luxury units and 20,000 square feet of retail and office space along Baylis Road.

They are billing the proposal as beneficial to the district, saying it will provide significant tax benefits. Meanwhile, the district sent the town a letter saying an influx of students could affect programs.

It mentioned possibly having to pierce the state tax cap if it has to take more students.

The Huntington Town Board said it will consider a special use permit for the project.
