An overnight fire damaged an abandoned Paterson high school early Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded to the old St. Mary's High School on Sherman Avenue overnight for reports of a fire. They quickly brought the flames under control and found nobody inside.
The water that was used, mixed with the cold temperatures, led to treacherous ice buildup on Sherman and Union avenues.
Public Works employees quickly came to the rescue to de-ice the roadways for Thursday morning commuters.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. No injuries were reported.
