The Yonkers police and fire departments, along with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) responded to a chemical reaction at Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers Friday morning, according to the DEP.
The incident involved sodium hydroxide, which is a caustic chemical. The reaction happened when a new contractor was loading that chemical into a truck and something inside that truck reacted with it, according to the DEP.
The DEP says the shelter-in-place order was lifted at 1:30 p.m. It says no injuries were reported, and there are no impacts to the water supply.
