The Huntington Highway Department had its pump truck working on East Second Street in Huntington Station, using it to clear out storm drains, vacuuming out debris so they can hold water and keep the roads free from flooding.

Crews are making their way around the Town of Huntington, treating low-lying areas like on East Gate Drive so water from the storm can flow into the drains.

Huntington Highway Superintendent Andre Sorrentino says drivers should not go through a flooded road and take it slow.

"People think you got four-wheel-drive you can go as fast as you want, it's not true. you hit a patch of leaves that's wet it's like going on ice. so, you want to be safe, take a little more time to get where you need to go, plan it out a little bit more," said Sorrentino.

Town officials also recommend that you tie down any outdoor items including holiday decorations because high winds are expected.
