A Bed-Stuy woman says she finally got relief after weeks of living with a broken radiator pipe that filled her apartment with scalding steam.
Caridad Torres says the pipe cracked last month, right after NYCHA turned the heat on in her building. The burst sent suffocating steam pouring through her living room, soaking her ceiling and damaging her TV.
“They went to Home Depot, and they bought Gorilla Glue and a puddy. And that's what they put,” Torres said. “And then like two days later, it started again. And I called them again and I put in another ticket and they came. They did it again. This is like the fourth time now.”
Torres says she filed multiple repair tickets, but the issue kept coming back. Until News 12 contacted NYCHA. Within hours, crews arrived to fully replace the broken pipe.
Now, Torres says she finally feels safe in her home again and is grateful someone listened.
