A couple is still reeling from what they call a total lack of empathy in the aftermath of
chaos following the Dominican Day Parade.
In viral TikTok videos, revelers were seen surrounding the couple’s vehicle, climbing on top of it, jumping and dancing as they attempted to drive home to Yonkers from the Grand Concourse and E. 167th Street in The Bronx.
Rebecca Porter and her husband, Vilair Delus, were attending a birthday brunch on July 27 at Zona De Cuba. The couple, who are in their 70s, say they rarely go out and now say they regret that they did.
Porter says initially, her husband attempted to let the crowd pass, as many streets were still flooded with people in the hours after the parade ended. Instead, she says a mob of paradegoers descended on their vehicle. She described experiencing a panic attack as the mob of people refused to let them leave, taunting, laughing and recording until finally police escorted them to safety.
They say the damages to their vehicle amount to $2,098.87, and the family has also reported it to the police.
