Council Member Susan Zhuang’s Office says a Brooklyn mother was detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Bensonhurst.
The incident happened Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. Witnesses saw ICE agents, some wearing bulletproof vests, arrive in four vehicles.
Zhuang, a councilmember for District 43, was alerted to her detainment through community calls.
The councilmember's office says it is trying to get in contact with the woman’s family.
Zhuang issued the following statement:
“We were told ICE would focus on criminals, not hard-working immigrant families. Stop tearing these families apart. Every person deserves due process. Like our constitution says, no person shall be ”deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law."
