The number of people experiencing homelessness in Connecticut has increased by 10%, according to new data.

The latest “Point In Time” count from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) shows the rise comes even as national homelessness numbers have dropped by more than 3%.

Housing advocates say the difference highlights both ongoing challenges and possible solutions.

HUD says the national decrease shows progress can be made. However, officials say continued services are needed to help people stay in permanent housing and prevent homelessness before it begins.
