Connecticut is launching a new effort to connect children and families with behavioral health resources as students return to school.

State officials announced two new awareness campaigns aimed at helping families find support for children experiencing mental health challenges.

The effort includes a digital outreach campaign and advertisements on buses across the state.

Officials said the goal is to increase awareness of urgent crisis centers available for children experiencing behavioral health emergencies that do not require a trip to the emergency room.

The centers can help families dealing with issues such as thoughts of self-harm, substance abuse, depression and other mental health concerns.

State leaders said the services are designed to provide timely care and support for children and their families.

Organizations operating the crisis centers include Yale New Haven Hospital, The Child & Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and other providers across the state.

The two campaigns, which will be in both English and Spanish, were revealed at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Wednesday.
