Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew has alleged that dozens of drones seen flying over New Jersey over the last few weeks have come from Iran.
Van Drew stated that there is “circumstantial evidence that suggests these drones could be the work of foreign adversaries.”
“Right now, we know that there are drones flying in from the direction of the ocean. We also know there is an Iranian drone mothership that is missing from port in Iran, with a timeline matching the emergence of these drones,” Van Drew wrote in a statement.
However, there seems to be some dispute among government officials about the drones’ origin.
Deputy Defense Secretary Sabrina Singh said there is “not any truth” to Van Drew’s statements.
“There is no Iranian shop off the coast of the United States and there is no so-called ‘mother ship’ launching drones toward the United States,” Singh said.
Singh also said that it did not appear that the drones were the work of foreign adversaries.
The White House says that President Joe Biden has also been briefed on the situation.
The FBI asks that residents share any videos or photos they may have of the flights, along with any other relevant information by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submitting a tip online.
