Cleanup efforts are now underway after a fire ripped through a five-story building Tuesday morning in Gowanus, injuring 12 people.
The Department of Buildings has issued a partial vacate order for the building.
Firefighters discovered an e-bike and lithium-ion batteries at the scene.
The Red Cross confirmed to News12 that at least one family has been rehomed following the fire.
The family tells News 12 they were getting ready for school when they opened up their front door to a smoke-filled hallway before fleeing.
A family member says the Red Cross told her family her home was habitable, but they say it has gray walls and haze filling the rooms.
They say they don't feel safe sleeping there tonight.
