A Bridgeport prosecutor dropped charges Monday for a Fairfield University student arrested last year for promoting a fake SantaCon event, according to his lawyer.
Police say 19-year-old Emmet Blaney, of Massapequa, promoted fake SantaCon gatherings on social media for different private beach residences.
The prosecutor said the state is entering a “nolle” – meaning the case will not be pursued further.
The state has 13 months to reopen the case. If no move is made, charges will be automatically dismissed.
Blaney’s attorney did not comment at the courthouse but later told News 12 "We're pleased with the result and the state's appropriate resolution of these charges,” said Elizabeth Buchanan, Shipman & Goodwin LLP.
Blaney was facing criminal attempt to commit disorderly conduct and criminal attempt to commit criminal trespass charges.
