A man was found stabbed inside the lobby of a New Rochelle building early Wednesday morning after running from an apartment on Church Street.
Police received a call around 6:30 a.m. about a man on the sidewalk who had been stabbed.
Investigators said the 31‑year‑old victim was involved in an altercation inside one of the apartments in a new building at 12 Church Street and then ran outside.
The victim was conscious when first responders arrived, according to police. They said there was a large amount of blood both inside and outside the building.
He was stabbed in the upper leg, and investigators said an artery might have been nicked.
“The victim had to go into surgery, appears to have a significant amount of blood loss, and right now, I believe he’s in stable condition,” said Capt. Collins Coyne of the New Rochelle Police Department.
According to investigators, the exact circumstances surrounding how the victim sustained the puncture wound are under investigation.
Police say they have taken a 28-year-old into custody at the scene. They are investigating this as a domestic matter.
The area is back open to traffic, but investigators continue to process the scene inside the Church Street building. A bloody pair of sneakers remained in the street.
According to police, charges against the suspect are being evaluated.
