Dash cam footage shows a person wearing a mask and a hood approaching a car parked in a driveway in West Hempstead, smashing the windshield with a golf club, and then running away.
Police say it happened Saturday at 12:45 a.m. on Champlain Avenue.
Herbert Chavarria says he walked out to his car Saturday morning and saw it had been vandalized.
"To my surprise, I found two huge holes in my windshield," he said.
Chavarria says he feels whoever did this was targeting him.
"Not to steal something, not to see if something else was around or anything else. Their purpose was to smash my car," Chavarria said.
According to police, no other cars in the neighborhood were damaged this weekend.
Chavarria says he's going to have to pay out of pocket to replace his windshield.
"The insurance, they'll cover it. They probably won't keep me, or they'll probably raise my rates to the point where I scream 'uncle,'" Chavarria said.
As News 12 has reported, Teslas have been targeted across the country in recent months. The attacks began in January in response to Tesla CEO Elon Musk's involvement with DOGE.
"For whatever political reason, or no political reason they have, I have to pay for it," Chavarria said.
Nassau police say they are investigating the West Hempstead incident.
Chavarria says he's grateful for the police's help but he's worried this will happen again.
Police had not made any arrests as of Sunday night in connection with the tesla vandalism in West Hempstead.
