A truck driving through the intersection of Remsen Avenue and Avenue D brought down power lines Tuesday morning, knocking three utility poles to the ground and sparking a fire.
Witnesses said the incident sounded like a loud explosion.
Nearly 400 customers lost power. While most had their electricity restored within an hour, some continued to face service disruptions throughout the day.
The intersection was shut down for several hours, creating major delays for drivers, pedestrians and shoppers.
No injuries were reported.
