At least two people were injured after a fire broke out inside an apartment building in Canarsie, the FDNY says.

According to fire officials, 79 fire and EMS personnel were called to the NYCHA Breukelen Houses just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Citizen app footage shows thick black smoke billowing from a second-floor window while firefighters work their way inside the building from its front entrance.

News 12 spoke to multiple residents of 10609 Flatlands Ave., one of whom said her cat jumped out of the second-floor window when the blaze erupted.

She tells News 12 that she saw a spark in her living room on Tuesday and reported it to maintenance but claims they did not take any action.

The resident says she and her four children were able to make it through their slightly jammed door to safety. Their cat survived the second-floor leap.

Fire crews were able to control the blaze in just over 25 minutes, according to officials.

The FDNY says the two victims turned down medical attention. However, News 12 crews saw EMS wheeling multiple people away from the building in wheelchairs and stretchers.

News 12 reached out to NYCHA for a statement and was referred to the FDNY.
