Demands for an end to gun violence in Yonkers are growing. It's in response to multiple shooting incidents so far this week.
It started Sunday on Glenwood Avenue. A man had a gunshot injury to his leg.
Then on Monday, a man was shot on Yonkers Avenue following an argument on a Bee-Line bus.
Tuesday brought more gunfire, two men were shot near the corner of Walnut Street and Elm Street.
"It's insane because it's senseless," says Maurice Burgess, with SNUG in Yonkers.
That's why Burgess and others with the violence prevention organization SNUG gathered Thursday evening.
"We are all one, we are family. We've all been through this, trying to keep them from being on the streets to shooting hoops," says Deshorn Shealy.
Leaders with the city say they are also working to stop the violence.
"Making sure our constituents are safe, that's our priority for the mayor, for the whole entire City Council, for the police department. We are on it and I'm just praying this is the last of it," says Yonkers City Council member Deana Robinson.
Sage McDowell lives in one of the neighborhoods where one of the recent shootings happened. He says he has noticed more police patrolling the area.
He hopes this is the start of safer days ahead.
"It has been a lot. I have to watch my kids every time I move around, and keep them safe and close to me," McDowell explains.
