Flatbush was filled with the sights and sounds of Jamaica on Saturday as hundreds gathered for Brooklyn's first-ever Jamaican Day Parade. 

Waving Jamaican flags, dancing to music and proudly showcasing their heritage, paradegoers packed the streets to celebrate Jamaican culture and community. 

The event brought together people from across New York and beyond, including some who traveled internationally to take part in the historic celebration. 

"My mother here has been living in Brooklyn for many, many years," one attendee said. "I came all the way from London to celebrate this amazing day with my mother." 

The festive atmosphere stretched along the parade route, with vibrant displays of national pride.

"So patriotic," another paradegoer said. "I'm Jamaican through and through." 

Organizers and attendees called the inaugural parade a success and hope it becomes an annual tradition in Brooklyn. 

Many are already looking ahead to next year's celebration, which is expected to be even bigger as Jamaica marks the 65th anniversary of its independence.
