The process of applying to a job just became a little less daunting. With the help of Bronxworks, people can now seek career opportunities in an environment that also supports workforce development.
Bronxworks provides a variety of services throughout The Bronx including youth development, after school programs, community centers, shelters, and more. It's currently hiring for roles in its youth services department, and all types of experience are welcome.
"These programs are not just to provide services for the children, but an opportunity for some of these young people that we hire. This is probably their first jobs or their first opportunity working. So a lot of times we're providing work readiness skills as well as employment," said Ursula Cooper Hunter, the vice president of youth services at Bronxworks.
Bronxworks staff are helping people build resumes, identify skills, and put them to use. They also host hiring events where people can be interviewed on site and hear immediate feedback.
News 12 spoke with some people applying to jobs at Bronxworks. They emphaisze the importance of hiring within the community.
"It gives others insight and it gives them relation, so if you see people from your community doing things to help you it may inspire somebody else to do it," said Ralph Tyler, a current job candidate at Bronxworks.
Another candidate, Dianne Monroe, chimed in, saying, "We have the Bronx community, we need to build it up, so everybody can come and have a good job experience."
Bronxworks has more than 1,000 staff members and over 60 locations throughout the Bronx. The organization serves more than 65,000 Bronx residents every year, with more than 3,000 children taking part in its youth services.
