A South Bronx Charter middle school is helping and supporting their students who want to go to art specialized high schools.
Faculty at the South Bronx Early College Academy noticed many of their students were interested in the arts. They wanted to make sure their students were going to high schools that fit their needs. They designed a seventh grade art portfolio class to prepare and support kids looking at art specialized high schools.
This graduating eighth grade class is the first group to go through this process with the help of the portfolio class. Nine out of the13 students were selected into one of their top three choices.
Faculty says the program is growing—with 20 students now exploring that same route.
