A Bronx man is facing charges in connection to a double stabbing on Sunday that killed a mother and injured her daughter in Melrose.
Police arrested 47-year-old Ramond Reyes after they said he stabbed 57-year-old Rosemary Tapia Bautista multiple times inside her Park Avenue apartment.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“It’s really tough,” said Saara Ciprian, a family member. “It’s sad.”
The family said Reyes broke into the apartment and also stabbed Bautista’s daughter, 40-year-old Massiell Guerra, who is Reyes’ ex and has two children together.
“They split up like three years ago, and that’s when everything started going downhill from there,” said Ciprian.
The family said Guerra was stable at Lincoln Hospital.
"She doesn’t know her mother died,” said Lisy Mata, a family member. “She asked for her mother. I told her everyone is OK and told her try to take care of yourself first."
Now, the family is fighting for answers, especially for Bautista’s murder.
"She was really happy, really joyful, supportive for the family,” said Ciprian. “She was everything to us, and now she’s gone."
Reyes faces a list of charges, including murder, attempted murder, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon.
“It was a life taken away from us,” said Ciprian. “It’s sad. We really want justice to be done.”
