Mayor Joe Ganim says a new era is set to dawn in Bridgeport as the city receives a $10 million grant earmarked for four major demolition projects.
"After years of being an eyesore, these buildings will come down over the next few weeks – and it's happening not a moment too soon," Ganim told News 12.
The Warnoco building on the South End, the Ostermoon building in The Hollow, the former Bridgeport Health Department building on the East Side and the Cherry Street and Railroad Avenue buildings on the West Side are all slated for immediate demolition, Ganim said.
"The buildings will all be replaced with high-end affordable housing, bringing us one step closer to being a vibrant new city -- one with the lowest violent crime rate on record," Ganim said.
