Thousands of parked cars in Bridgeport were buried under snowdrifts created by plows clearing roadways in the city Monday - and it was hard to go anywhere in the city without seeing residents digging their vehicles out.
"It was an absolute nightmare because the snow froze on top of my car and created this hard crust that was like a sheet of steel," said Maria Sanchez, who lives on the East Side.
"I have to go back to work tomorrow, so there was no escaping it - and I ended up spending over an hour digging my car out," Sanchez said.
Luis Burgos, who heads up the city's Public Facilities Department, urged residents not to shovel snow from on top of their cars back into the street.
"We need everyone to work together as part of this massive cleanup effort. Our workers have been doing an incredible job keeping the streets safe and passable, and we appreciate it when our residents move the snow from their cars onto areas that won't obstruct either drivers or pedestrians," Burgos said.
