An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a car that took off in Gravesend, police said.
It happened just before 6 p.m. Monday near Ocean Parkway and Avenue V. Investigators say someone driving a black Acura sedan struck the boy as he was near the crosswalk and kept going. The car was found a short time later abandoned about four blocks away on Ocean Parkway.
A 25-year-old man standing nearby was also hurt after being hit by debris from the crash. He’s expected to be OK.
Video from the scene shows debris scattered across the street and a single black Nike sneaker that police say belonged to the child. Investigators spent hours combing through the area, blocking off several lanes along Ocean Parkway.
Neighbors say this part of the parkway has become increasingly dangerous.
“You have tons of scooters, people crossing red lights all the time through the center lane,” said one nearby resident. “This doesn’t surprise me, unfortunately. Ocean Parkway is not really patrolled like it should be.”
This crash happened just a few blocks from where a mother and her two children were killed in another collision earlier this year.
So far in 2025, there have been five traffic-related deaths in this precinct—slightly fewer than the seven reported by this time last year.
