A New York man was arrested after police said he stole a nearly $12,000 jacket from a department store at a Paramus shopping mall.
Officers responded to Neiman Marcus at about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, for a report of shoplifting, according to the Paramus Police Department.
The suspect was described as a tall white man wearing a dark hat, blue jacket and brown pants who fled the store without paying for merchandise, police said.
Police located the suspect in the parking lot of Westfield Garden State Plaza. During the investigation, an officer observed the man hiding merchandise beneath his clothing and noticed a hanger protruding from under his clothes.
Police said the suspect was also wearing a "booster girdle," a device commonly used to conceal stolen merchandise.
Police said they recovered a blue fur Brunello Cucinelli coat, still attached to its hanger, valued at $11,950, from the girdle.
Zoran Vulanovic, 55, of Astoria, New York, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
