A fugitive who escaped from a New Hampshire prison over the weekend is in custody after trying to buy gas in Norwalk.
Security camera footage from the Mobil gas station on West Avenue shows Jianming Zeng trying to pay for gas with a box of change.
Authorities say he was driving a stolen pickup truck after escaping the Sullivan County House of Corrections in New Hampshire Saturday.
Norwalk police say Zeng escaped by throwing clothing over a fence and climbing through barbed wire.
“When I saw him, there was a red-light reaction right away," owner of the gas station Zakaria Sedda says. "It was a person with underwear, just a shirt on himself, and he was bloody all over his body. I felt something was wrong."
Sedda says it was odd the owner of a truck that size would be paying in change, so he called police right away after refusing to give Zeng gas.
Zeng is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
