The Health Department has reported that bird flu has been detected in Putnam County.
The virus was found in a wild goose that was discovered dead by the Farm and Wildlife Center at Green Chimneys in Brewster at the end of December.
Several domestic animals have also been affected by the bird flu.
However, the health department says that humans who do not come into contact with sick animals are considered to be at low risk. The department is working with the state to further lower the risk.
