The sighting occurred around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday on Stag Trail in Fairfield.
Police are advising the public not to approach the bear and to keep pets indoors.
Anyone who encounters the bear should stay calm, maintain a safe distance, and slowly back away, according to wildlife officials.
