Temperatures cool down as breezy winds linger Thursday

Gusty winds will back down into Thursday morning, but as the winds back down, colder air moves in. The temperatures will experience a little "weather whiplash" as they go down into the upper teens to low 20s for Thursday morning. They will also feel colder with breezy winds lingering. Some areas may feel temps into the single digits... BRRR! But thankfully, this shot of cold air will be quick, as temps will get milder going into Friday.

Through the day on Thursday, keep that winter jacket and hat handy, as temperatures will struggle to get into the mid 30s. As day turns to night, temperatures will slowly move upward as a system approaches the area. Due to the temperatures being cold at first, there is a chance for a brief wintry mix just before the morning rush is well underway on Friday. Temperatures will continue to get milder through the day, but as the rain showers fall down, it will feel like a chill is back in the air. Forecast highs are into the low to mid 40s. The rain will be on and off through the day, tapering off into the evening hours where colder air will try to rush in. Overnight Friday into Saturday will be a colder, breezy wind, but high gusts aren't expected. There will be a mix of sun and clouds Saturday with temps into the 30s.

Sunday is Groundhog Day, and our weather will be relatively peaceful and dry. There is a chance for snow showers to flurries possible late in the day as a system just skirts past the region. For the groundhog, if it sees its shadow, we get six more weeks of winter. If there is no shadow spotted, spring will be arriving early. Officially though, we are 50 days from the vernal equinox and spring being in full swing in the Hudson Valley.

SATURDAY: FEBRUARY 1ST - Mix of sun and clouds and breezy at times. Feels: mid 20s. Highs: mid 30s. Lows: upper 10s.

SUNDAY: GROUNDHOG DAY - Mostly cloudy with a chance for flurries/snow showers in the late day hours. Feels: mid 10s to mid 20s. Highs: mid 30s. Lows: upper 20s to low 30s.

MONDAY: Sun and clouds. Feels: mid 30s to low 40s. Highs: upper 40s. Lows: mid to upper 20s.
