        A DEC Environmental Conservation police officer euthanized an adult bear on Sept. 24 after determining it posed a danger to the public.
        The bear, classified as "Class 1" due to its interaction with the public, had entered a densely populated community.
        The DEC reminds residents to keep a safe distance from bears to ensure public and animal safety.

        • Remove bird feeders.
        • Secure trash cans.
        • Clean grills.
        • Avoid outdoor food and pet feeding.
        • Use electric fencing for protection.

        • Call 911 for immediate danger.
        • Contact regional wildlife office or DEC Law Enforcement Dispatch Center (1-844-DEC-ECOs) for nonemergency situations.
