A Ronkonkoma man faced a judge after police say he burglarized nearly a dozen different businesses in Centereach, Farmingville, and Lake Ronkonkoma this month.
According to police, Michael Mancuso was arrested after he stole a cash register from Deli Pupuseria Salvadorena in Centereach on Wednesday.
Barminder Sidhu, an owner at Aladdin Indian Restaurant in Centereach, says they just opened the restaurant a few months ago. He got an unsettling call Tuesday morning from their landlord.
"He [...] broke the glass and he took our register, the money,” he said.
Sidhu shared a video with News 12 of when they say Mancuso broke into their restaurant.
Suffolk police say Mancuso burglarized 10 other businesses, including Salon La Couture in Ronkonkoma.
Owner Amy Tancsik tells News 12 in the 11 years she’s been open, nothing like this has happened.
"The door was completely smashed. Our desk was flipped over, taken apart. He rode away on a bicycle with the register,” she said. "Small businesses, you put your heart and your soul into this. And this is what happens. I was happy that he was arrested."
Small business owners tell News 12 they’re frustrated and worried about this happening again as they pick up the pieces.
"We are worried about it again, if it happens again,” said Sidhu. “What can we do because it's a small business and we've spent a lot of money."
Mancuso was arraigned Friday and pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of burglary and one count of petit larceny.
