There is a new policy now in effect that outlines who can and cannot visit a very popular summer spot in one South Shore Suffolk community. News Long Island's Jonathan Gordon is at Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst with the new policy and what sparked all this change? Those living here say the parking situation, pedestrian safety, overall congestion got so bad that the town felt they had no other option but to make this change so late in the summer. Lindenhurst residents like Octavio Viti know these issues all too well. It's kind of tough for me to get into my driveway. Around 9:30, 10 o'clock at night, he's one of many residents who raised concerns with Babylon officials about illegal parking, traffic, and overcrowding that forced the town to take action. Part of the issue, according to residents, nightly live music at Catch Restaurant, a popular summer spot within the park that draws big crowds. Depends on a certain day of the week. It's It gets a little hectic, you know. People are parking on the streets where they're actually not allowed to. There's signs that tell you you can't. Starting today, you'll need a beach pass during the day, and after 4 that pass or a valid ID with the Babylon address will get you access to the park. officials justified the decision in a statement saying in part, Our goal remains the same to protect the quality of life for our residents while maintaining opportunities for recreation and enjoyment. But not everyone is on board. There's a lot of traffic and everything else, but the bands. Going the thumbs up on the band. Catch management is worried about how much business will cost them. They responded in a statement. This unexpected change will have a deep impact, and the ripple effects reach far beyond our business. They added the town's decision forced them to cut summer employment short for teens and college students and cancel the remaining musical acts. This policy change will remain in effect through Labor Day, and then in the offseason, the town says it will work to come up with a long-term plan to address the issue in Lindenhurs, Suffolk County, Jonathan Gordon, News 12.

A popular waterfront spot in Lindenhurst is now only open to town of Babylon residents. The new rule is because of what the town says was traffic and pedestrian congestion in nearby streets. Well, now a restaurant at the park says it had to cancel its musical acts for the rest of the summer. News Twelve's Cecilia Dowd has the latest. It's a really cool spot. It's right on the beach. Uh, it's got a beautiful big stage. Venetian has always been a really beautiful fun place to play. Gary Hyatt and Lorraine McCormack play in the band Stagecoach. They were set to play at the restaurant Catch at Venetian Shores Park this week, but the gig got canceled. The lawyer for Catch says they were told to stop the music. Music is our bread and butter, um. We are acting through a directive from the town. We're trying to keep our contract. We're trying to not do anything to jeopardize that. Joe Ferrante was set to sing with his band OP Effect this week. We were surprised and bummed out, you know, it's a missed show and people that plan to come from out of town to see us can't see us. Catch's owner worries she will likely have to lay off employees or cut hours drastically, but the town of Babylon tells News 12 that live music is required to be provided by Catch in accordance with their agreement with them. The town says live music is allowed as it is required. Meanwhile, Catch's owner told News 12 earlier, We've always come from a place of working together. We want to work together. We want this resolved. There's a lot of compromises that could be had, and that's what we want. We're still hopeful. We told everybody, you know, put it on hold. Katch's lawyer tells News 12 it is Katch's goal through meetings with the town supervisor and lawyers to bring about an appropriate and peaceful resolution reporting from Lindenhurst, Cecilia Dowd News 12, and we're told that meeting you just heard about is scheduled for tomorrow. We'll keep an eye on it.
