2ds agoA baby with a medically fragile condition finally got to go home Thursday after spending nearly a year at Blythedale Children's Hospital.
Dozens of health care providers lined the halls of the Valhalla hospital to see and clap for 1 1/2-year-old Genesis, as she left to go home to Long Island for the first time.
Her proud parents said she was born prematurely and had a birth defect that prevented her diaphragm from developing correctly.
The condition required her to have multiple surgeries and spend about a year at Blythedale Children's Hospital to get treatment.
"Travelling back and forth it's been a long journey, but I'm happy, really happy as a father and I'm thankful to God...to Blythedale, as well and to all the people around us that helped this process," said her father, Jairo Tacori.
The baby's health care providers said they prepared her family for her discharge through their Parent and Family Education Program and Simulation Lab.
