The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General has released the name of a man shot and killed by police officers in Keansburg in May. The man was identified as 46-year-old Willem Roman.
Authorities say that Keansburg police were called to a home on Seabreeze Way around 1 p.m. on May 27 for a welfare check. They say the officers found Roman in possession of multiple weapons and running a chainsaw.
Officials say that Roman approached the officers with the chainsaw and that’s when Officer John Swartz fired a taser at Roman, while Officer Tyler Manges shot him.
Roman died a few weeks later on June 14 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
It was not known if the officers would be facing any charges in the incident.
