Gilgo Beach murder suspect Rex Heuermann was expected to be in court today for a conference but his attorney said he is suffering from health issues.
Following the brief court appearance related to a defense motion in the case case, defense attorney Michael Brown told reporters that Heuermann, who did not appear in court, has been on crutches.
"There’s some health issues. He’s been on crutches for a month or so. So, in view of the fact that this was only going to be a submission date, and we had a lengthy conversation yesterday by telephone, we agreed we would waive his appearance for today’s purposes," Brown said.
Asked if his client had fallen, he said, "I’m not at liberty to discuss. He has some health issues, so that’s what we’re dealing with, so at this point in time I thought it was probably better for him to just stay at the jail."
The next court date, where Brown said he expects a decision on the defense's motion to suppress evidence, is April 8.
