A new luxury development is reshaping Bed-Stuy's residential landscape.
Atlantic BK, the latest project to join the community, is offering a blend of modern amenities, expansive retail opportunities and new access to affordable housing, all while keeping residents close to home.
According to Graham Christensen, vice president of Market Rate Development at Douglaston Development, the building’s commitment to affordability is substantial.
“Thirty percent of the units are affordable,” Christensen explains. “So when you have 456 units in total, that means 138 units of affordable housing are being added to this community.”
The affordable units are designed with the same features as the market-rate apartments, including floor-to-ceiling windows, solar shades, and in some cases, dedicated in-home office spaces.
“We take a lot of pride in that all of our units are integrated,” Christensen says. “There’s people of all different incomes and ethnicities living together harmoniously.”
Atlantic BK also aims to invigorate the local economy with 31,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, which the development team hopes will attract new businesses such as a grocery store or day care, to the neighborhood.
“It’s a long relationship; 10, 15, 20 years hopefully with a retailer,” Christensen notes. “And that means a long runway for jobs in the community.”
Residents will also have access to an extensive list of amenities, including a coworking lounge, kids playroom, book nook, theater, gym and one standout feature: a rooftop with 360-degree views of the surrounding cityscape.
Incoming resident Erica Conliffe says she’s ready to embrace what Atlantic BK will bring to Bed-Stuy.
“Just in terms of gentrification, growth, what the property can offer the community, and just a new environment, but still close to home,” she says.
As Atlantic BK opens its doors, it signals a new chapter for Bed-Stuy, one that blends growth, community investment, and expanded access to quality housing.
