A City Island staple is saying goodbye after 30 years in business. News 12's Heather Fordham takes us to Artie's Steak and Seafood restaurants where diners are sitting down for one last meal. Garlic sizzles. The aroma of scallops and shrimp fill the air as the chef prepares one of his final plates of angel hair. My two main men have been with me for the 30 years. It's been a 30 year run in this kitchen, but this month Ardi's steak and seafood will plate its last dish. I'm not sure how it's going to look like in the future. But uh our time has come and it's time to move on and do other things. We're gonna truly miss the island. We're gonna truly miss. Spiro Chira took ownership of the City Island treasure in 1996. He built a menu inspired by Mediterranean cuisine and a dining room where family tradition came together. Thank you. We wanted to give everybody the highest quality food. make them feel at home. It's become a generational restaurant, he says the decision to turn off the ovens and clear the tables was not easy, but it's time for his next chapter as he prepares for retirement. Just enjoy my grandkids, my family. And do the things that a demanding business like this didn't allow me to do for the last 30 years. As Chigaris and his team hang up their aprons, customers to always remember the flavors and the memories that were served under this blue roof on the corner of Dittmar Street and City Island Avenue. I hope they remember us for being a very consistent high quality restaurant and a place where they felt. The warmth of my staff.
