An alleged attack on a 91-year-old patient at a Somers nursing home is raising serious concerns about safety and oversight.
Police say 36-year-old Nashecka K. Moodie, of the Bronx, was arraigned in Somers Town Court on Monday. She is accused of striking and spitting on a resident at Paramount Rehabilitation and Nursing Care on Route 100 this past Saturday.
“It’s really disturbing,” said one local healthcare worker.
Authorities say Moodie was arrested by New York State Police and charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor, as well as second-degree harassment. Her case was adjourned to May 11.
Moodie and her attorney declined to comment following the arraignment.
News 12 also attempted to reach the facility multiple times by phone, email and in person but did not receive a response.
Still, some families say their experiences at the facility have been positive.
“The genuine care of this place, which I really was impressed with,” said one visitor.
The investigation remains ongoing.
