The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office on Thursday released video and identified three Ewing police officers involved in a pursuit that preceded a crash that killed a juvenile passenger in December 2025.
The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, which is investigating the incident, identified the officers as Edward Lester, Charles Wyckoff and Jason Ulrich. The office also released footage from a police vehicle recorder and a city surveillance camera, along with radio transmissions related to the crash.
According to investigators, Ewing police responded to a reported vehicle theft around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2025. Lester, driving a marked patrol vehicle, spotted a white Kia matching the description of the stolen vehicle and followed it for a period of time before activating his emergency lights and sirens near Coolidge and Pennington avenues. The Kia did not stop.
Authorities said Wyckoff and Ulrich joined the pursuit in separate marked police vehicles. The Kia continued at a high speed and drove through a red light at the intersection of Prospect Street and Parkway Avenue, where it collided with a red Subaru carrying four occupants.
A juvenile passenger in the Subaru was ejected and later died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The remaining Subaru occupants and the Kia’s driver were treated for nonfatal injuries.
After the collision, the Kia struck a traffic signal pole, causing it to fall onto both the Kia and Lester’s police vehicle. Lester was also treated for nonfatal injuries.
The identities of the juveniles involved, including the person who died, were not released.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the case involving the juveniles who were in the Kia.
