The man accused of fatally shooting off-duty NYPD Officer Adeed Fayaz nearly two years ago was back in court on Friday.
Fayaz was killed during an attempted robbery in East New York. He was on a trip with his brother-in-law to check out a used car he had seen on Facebook Marketplace when the tragedy unfolded.
"His police instinct took over, and he tried to save his brother-in-law, and unfortunately, it cost him his life," said Patrick Hendry, president of the NYC Police Benevolent Association.
The anniversary of Fayaz's death is just one week away, and his family continues to fight for justice.
"Our main goal is to make sure that this individual who took Adeed's life stays behind bars for the rest of his life," Hendry added."
A scheduled court date in April will determine the next steps in the case.
