Neighbors in the Edenwald say a growing number of abandoned trucks are creating a garbage buildup, raising safety concerns and sparking frustration among residents.

Diana Askew, who lives near the trucks on East 229th Street, says one trailer hauls a pickup truck and piles of trash. It has been parked on her the block since February.

“You see a part of a door and a back light. And you also see they've been dumping tires,” Askew said. “This eyesore, which is not acceptable to me in this area.”

Askew says that first vehicle led to more trucks being left behind in the area, including directly across the street.

In recent months, additional trucks have joined the lineup, some with shattered windows and piles of debris nearby.

“They've been parking here like this is a truck depot,” she said. “They busted the windows out.”

The parked vehicles sit just steps from Cardinal Spellman High School, raising concerns about pedestrian safety for students and families.

“When they try to cross the street, can they really get a good visual and a view of the scene past these trucks?” Askew said.

She told News 12 she’s contacted the local community board and elected officials multiple times in an effort to have the trucks removed. So far, no action has been taken.

“They should not be allowed to park near any school at all,” she said. “They should regulate or have some type of truck depot for these trucks.”

News 12 reached out to the NYPD about the vehicles. Within hours, an officer was seen on site taking photos of the trucks.

Police sources tell News 12 that vehicle removals could begin as early as Friday.

The NYPD advises residents to contact their local precinct’s “Quality of Life” team to report abandoned vehicles or other neighborhood issues, such as illegal scooters.
